NaMoDraMo: Drabble 1

“Dat’s day mahsh out dere bebe,” Old Nanette said from her rocking chair, a bowl of snap peas in her lap. She pointed southwest towards the dying day.

I swallowed. I’d come this far, only to be thwarted by darkness.

“You should wait til tomorrow,” Jimbo said. He was leaned up against a porch post, picking at the chipped paint. “Nigel will be here with the dogs.”

Old Nanette rocked and snapped the ends off. She gave me a handful to work on.
“Ya betta have ya pointa finga on dat trigga enough plenti of da black powda fa ya gun.”

Jimbo coughed. “It’s daylight, ain’t nothing going to happen.”

“Bebe, no sunshine gonna save yas from dat. De devil does his best work in broad daylight, cause he wan the world world ta see.”

Tent Cities

within these flickering tent cities
in another country
we seek refuge
yet we still seek the road back
lustful for that familiar ground
a trace of sadness lingers there
where we dream of the dark moon
and seek the night’s counsel
upon the winds of peace will
day will come again

Annoying

To be the best
little brother
or sister, if that’s you

Simple be the favorite of mother
there’ll be no wrong you do

Your sister you will bother
by tieing together her shoes

Your brother will discover
his soldiers needing glue

You’ll track in mud every other
hour, and blame it on old Blue
Blame your sibling
If you ever get caught

And when they slice, like a canary you sing
Though like dogs and cats you fought

You’ll be pouting and whining
Til they finally give in

While your smile is shining
then you win over your father
And it all begins again

NaPoWriMo: In My Head

Make it stop! Please god

I’m on my knees

Make them stop saying these things about me

They’re saying I’m a murderer

That I belong at the psych ward

If I could just stop screaming

Gnashing my teeth at their grating words

Don’t you see them?

The cockroaches under my skin

They’re digging into my brain!

God make it stop

They’re saying I killed him

I never hurt a fly

Honest Doc!

Ask Jesse here

She’s right over there

Don’t you see her Doc?

Make it stop!

I never hurt anybody!

Why won’t they stop ?!

Can’t you hear the voices,

Can’t you?

Don’t let them hurt me
