Of Mast and Main

I have two loves a-duel

Mineself — and the sea

Yet neither have ever been so cruel

Or have forsaken me, but thee

Of mast and main

And twist them to profane

Cut this mortal anchor,

stranded in Devil’s Sound

Thou even has run me aground

Fouler than a witch’s udder

Thy ruddy cheeks and lonesome stutter

Yet I love thee from broken bow to rusty rudder

Oh, can my love the sea compete?

With thy lusty eyes and deceit?

Mine loves they still a-duel this way

But thee, I pray would stay

Between mineself — and the sea

she’s never so cruel

Or have forsaken me like thee
