Drabble 91

They picked us off one by one. They turned us inside out, so inward that our egos came out swinging. We fought each other tooth and nail, while they watched from their thrones. We became gladiators, but they wouldn’t let us die. Oh no, they had to fatten us up, slow us down so they could savor the fat on our bones.
They’d hit us at night, in the stillness. We’d lay awake as they attacked us, they paralyzed us. Our gluttonous hearts beat furiously. There was no escape from them, from the truth. We were slew not by our pride, but our fear.
